Eischen’s was a local watering hole found on Rt. 66 running through Oklahoma. The oldest bar in Oklahoma, Eischen’s Saloon on the old Chisholm Trail opened for business in 1896 and has been run by a family member ever since. Oh, there was that brief period of drought known as Prohibition, but that didn’t stop the tradition. Even the fire in 1993, which destroyed Eischen’s elegant, hand-carved Spanish back bar, couldn’t shut the place down. A local taxidermist donated a large collect of stuffed animal heads to replace all the ones destroyed in the fire.
The photos of Eischen’s seen here were the last photos taken inside the bar before the fire. I sent my now ex-father-in-law, who lives in Oklahoma, to the bar with a set of prints. They are currently hanging in the bar as a shire to the old place, with the small corner of the bar, the only surviving piece of the magnificent structure. The bar owner rewarded my ex-father-in-law with a nice chicken-fried steak dinner for bringing over the photos. Just the way a good Oklahoman would.
